Tick Tock
A small framed plaque here on my desk
reminds me it’s time to face reality:
"You can't turn back the clock...
But you can wind it up again."
My friend gave it to me years ago. She knew my brokenness.
And she knew my struggle: I was gazing
BACKWARD at the past I couldn't change...
INWARD at the hurt I couldn't bear...
OUTWARD at the circumstances I couldn't control.
Instead of finding more peace, I was growing more hopeless.
In time, God answered the earnest prayers of friends and loved ones,
enabling me to begin changing my focus, to fix my gaze
UPWARD at HIM, the One who could "wind up my clock" again.
And that, He did.
Today, as I pray for so many friends going through difficult life storms,
I want to wrap my arms around them and whisper this
beautiful Bible promise that helped carry me through:
"Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith,
who ... endured such hostility by sinners against Himself,
so that you may not grow weary and lose heart."
(from Hebrews 12:2,3)
Growing weary, my friend? Losing heart?
Wondering where to fix your gaze?
Have I got a deal for you. Today you can begin again,
starting with Psalm 5:3 -
"My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD.
In the morning I will direct it to You and I will look up."
